Good News | The MSc in Data Science programme of CUHKSZ is ranked No. 2 in Asia and No. 23 in the world by QS 2023!
Recently, the MSc in Data Science programme of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was listed in the QS 2023 Master's in Business Analytics Ranking, and ranked the 1st place in China, 2nd place in Asia and 23rd place in the world. The programme was ranked No. 2 in Asian Pacific region and No. 18 in the world by ChaseDream 2021-2022 for master programmes in data science in 2021. A total of over 600 master programmes from 26 countries around the world participated in QS rankings this year, covering five major areas of specialization: MSc in Business Analytics, MSc in Supply Chain Management, MSc in Finance, MSc in Management and MSc in Marketing.
The MSc in Data Science programme is jointly offered by the School of Data Science and the School of Economics and Management of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. It cooperates with the Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data and the Shenzhen Finance Institute, with outstanding faculty members from the Schools and the Institutes serving as programme instructors. The programme is offered in two sub-divisions, Business Analytics and Big Data Analytics.
Since its founding in 2017, the MSc in Data Science programme has been adhering to its unique talent cultivation plan, opening up a path that combines big data and business. With high-quality faculty, excellent teaching quality, close connection with the industry, and the regional advantage of being located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the program has been widely recognized by the industry and academia during the past six years of development.
Professor Zhang Bohui, Co-Programme Director of the MSc in Data Science programme, explained that the biggest feature of the program is to cultivate interdisciplinary talents who understand both technology and business scenarios. "We hope that the students will build a solid theoretical foundation in data analysis and learn cutting-edge data processing techniques during their two-year study, so that they can make their own contributions to the innovative development of their industries in the future."

The QS ranking was compiled based on the programme's performance on five key indicators: 【employability (30%), alumni achievement (20%), thought leadership (20%), return on investment (20%), and class and faculty diversity (10%)】.

- Employability (30%)
This indicator scored 88.9, well above the global average score of 47.8. The employment rate of the programme has been 100% for three consecutive years, and both the average and median salaries have been increasing year by year. the average and median salaries of the class of 2021 graduates reached 364,000 RMB /year and 350,000 RMB /year respectively, with employment areas in domestic cities such as Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao, the Greater Bay Area, Beijing, Shanghai, and Hangzhou, as well as overseas countries such as Singapore and the Netherlands.
-Alumni Achievement(20%)
This indicator scored 60, which is higher than the global average score of 53.6. The outstanding performance of past alumni adds to the programme's competitiveness.
- Thought Leadership (20%)
This indicator includes the Academic Reputation Index (15%), Research Impact (2.5%), and the percentage of teaching staff with PhDs (2.5%). The programme's overall score of 69.3 is well above the global average score of 48.6.
- Return on Investment (20%)
The score of 60.5 for this indicator is slightly below the global average of 64.8, primarily because the program is still too young to calculate a 10-year return on investment.
- Class and Faculty Diversity (10%)
This indicator scored 29.7, below the global average of 61.0. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has spread around the world in recent years, the programme has been affected to some extent in international enrollment, and it will make the students more diverse while maintaining the quality.
